It's A Lonely World ...

Let's be honest, running your own business and working on your own is lonely. It can also be scary and you have to be grown up and make all the decisions too. That scares me! What if I make wrong decision? What if I upset a client? What if I fail?

The last few week's have been tough in lots of ways and I did have a little wobble a while ago about whether I was actually doing the right thing. It was a self-confidence issue and I nearly bottled it and threw in the towel claiming I couldn't do this any more.

What I found was that due to personal emotional issues I was not able to make rational decision about my business and I have never been in that position before. I am a logical, methodical and rational thinker. The power of emotion is a force to be reckoned with as is lack of sleep!! Working too much and not taking time for "me" makes a busy fool! Someone this week said to me "Janine, you run your own race!" Hell yes I do! Place your bets as I am the favourite in this race to be successful!

No longer am I going to try and compete with something I am not, no more am I going to worry about things I can't change and I am not going to let anything get in my way to creating a successful business!

So actually running your own business doesn't have to be lonely - why? Because I network and have the most fabulous group of people around me to support me! I have completely thrown myself into running four wonderful Women in Business Networking groups and found that all these people can help my business in some way, shape or form.

So my top tips to keep yourself sane in the world of self-employment: and some valuable lessons I have learnt the last few weeks:

  1. Surround yourself with positive people
  2. Make sure you have some "me" time and don't feel guilty for taking time out
  3. Set expectations and don't over promise to your clients
  4. Have a plan and stick to it
  5. Never give up
